For your accountancy practice...a database service that focuses on key sales improvement issues

Winning new business in the keenly competitive accountancy profession is never easy.

Now there is Accountancy Benchmark: A Business Development Database. Accountancy Benchmark is a unique independent database which helps you benchmark your own practice's performance against 60 other accountancy practices.

You discover how you perform on 128 different activities and issues connected with winning new practice business. Because the database lets you compare your performance with other practices, you can see at a glance how your practice performs both against the average and -- critically -- those practices that are most successful at winning new business.

Accountancy Benchmark takes the guesswork out of wondering how your performance stacks up against rivals. It replaces speculation with hard facts.

Take something as basic as new business enquiries. You'll receive them from many sources -- for example, existing and previous clients, specific marketing activity or cross-referrals from associated businesses. But are you getting as many enquiries from key sources as competitors? Accountancy Benchmark provides hard statistics about 12 possible enquiry sources.

Then there's the question of developing new business. Should you be sending out more mailing shots, making telephone cold calls, attending conferences or operating an Internet site? The benchmark shows what your rivals consider important among 16 business development activities -- and how you compare with them.

Across the full range of issues connected with winning new business -- arguably the most critical single activity in your practice -- Accountancy Benchmark provides hard facts. From who leads pitches... through factors to consider when deciding whether to bid for a new client... to what's important in the final negotiations with the potential client.

Never before has there been such a practical tool... so uniquely focused on the issues that are important to you. Because Accountancy Benchmark provides hard statistics -- rather than unsubstantiated opinions -- it can help to crystallise debate in your own practice about where your priorities lie.

Moreover, because Accountancy Benchmark focuses on those issues that are most important to your firm, it helps you to channel finite resources to where they can make most impact.

To benchmark your practice, start completing the questionnaire now. It's the first step to boosting your practice's business development power.

Accountancy Benchmark is operated by Policy Publications, an independent publishing company, with no connections to any accountancy practices.

How to benchmark your practice:
It couldn't be easier to benchmark your own practice against others on the database.

  1. Place your order from this website and you will be sent a questionnaire.
  2. Complete the tick box questionnaire and return it to Policy Publications at the address on the form.. It focuses on 128 different issues grouped under 16 main questions. Involve colleagues in completing the questionnaire -- you may find it stimulates lively debate!
  3. When we receive your payment and questionnaire, we input the data from your questionnaire to our purpose-built database. At all times, your results remain completely confidential. Nobody, apart from you, ever sees your own results.
  4. When we've input the results, we'll print out and send you a unique 25-page report. We usually mail benchmarking reports within seven working days of receiving a payment and completed questionnaire.

A unique report on your practice's performance...

Your Accountancy Benchmark report is produced in a smart two-colour format suitable for use in high-level meetings. It comes in five sections:

  1. Executive summary. A high-level summary of the findings plus an introduction on how to interpret the figures. This provides useful advice about interpreting the figures from the ten pages of statistical tables comparing your practice's performance with others.
  2. Comparison of your practice with the average of all others in the database. Tables show percentages from all accountancy practices in the database against each of the 128 issues. Your practice's performance on each issue is displayed for easy comparison. There is a useful commentary which draws your attention to some of the key issues you may want to explore.
  3. Comparison of your practice with those practices that are most successful at winning new business. (Most successful practices are defined as those that win more than half their bids for new business.) Tables show percentages only from most successful accountancy practices in the database against each of the 128 issues. Your practice's performance on each issue is displayed for easy comparison. There is more commentary which focuses on issues which may be important.
  4. Top ten action checklist. This provides you with your own unique top ten action issues -- those where your practice's performance falls furthest behind the most successful. See, at a glance, those areas which may require the most urgent attention.
  5. How to make best use of your report. This explains how to use your Accountancy Benchmark report to develop an action plan for continuous improvement in your practice's sales and marketing programme.
